Through The Lens of Caleb Dobie

Caleb is a London-based photographer and model.

Tell us more about your journey

I grew up on a council estate in South East London and come from a working class back ground.  Growing up as a kid it was football, girls and trouble.

The football and girls kept me away from trouble (mostly). I always loved football but walked away from it to give 100% to modelling for over 13 years then recently found my love for football again. This time I found my way back through the fashion industry and started taking pictures two years ago on film (35mm), using my eye for creative direction and taking pictures of girls in street wear and football shirts. I find it funny that people always say I love your work… My work is just my childhood - that’s where I take inspiration - shooting girls in the looks we would wear and the places we hung out, this was me and my friends growing up..

I’m now looking to get into football with my knowledge of creative direction and feel for collabs with football and fashion. Throughout I aim to give back to the South London community by pushing the brands involved to give back a percentage of profits to young people in South London. It’s funny because so many people think of themselves when it comes to a big opportunity and how they can monetise the situation. My first thought was to give back to the future generation of kids in the community where I live.

What it means to be Active?

Active in my passion for what I want to do within football and fashion. I would say having a vision and sticking to it no matter what people say or how they try to influence your path… find the path and stick to it. When I look at Aquascutum Active I think of the football casuals in the terraces.  Having a dad that was a hooligan in the mid 80’s for Crystal Palace I grew up around it.

3 things that meke you feel good?

Vacation, family time, my two daughters Maliyah and Mabel

What about music?

I like drum and bass for motivational music when working out then I like British rap and American rap. Album ‘Watch The Throne’ Jay-Z and Kanye because the concert was still the best I’ve ever been to and that’s 13 / 14 years ago.
