50 Years. One Icon. The Original Club Check. 2026 marks 50 years of the iconic Club Check. Introduced in 1976 as the lining of Aquascutum trench coats, it evolved into a truly timeless symbol of British heritage, timeless style, and contemporary functionality.
For fifty years, the Club Check has been one of those enduring patterns, quietly becoming part of British cultural history. To mark its golden anniversary, The Soccer Archive and Aquascutum Active came together for something rare: a celebration that lived in two cities at once.
From 24 to 26 July, Great Windmill Street in London and Corso di Porta Ticinese in Milan each became a stage for the same story, told twice, once in the language of London's football heritage, once in the language of Milan's style.
Two Cities, One Anniversary
Across both the London and Milan pop-ups, the spaces became more than retail environments. They were meeting points for collectors, creatives, football supporters and everyone who understands that clothing can carry stories far beyond the fabric itself.
At the centre of it all: the 50th Anniversary Club Check Football Jersey, gold in colour, gold in intention. For its golden anniversary, we gave the Club Check exactly that: gold.
To celebrate Club Check's 50th anniversary, the pattern has been revisited in the colour the occasion deserves. The result is a football shirt that carries its heritage with discretion: the iconic check is tone-on-tone on a warm gold ground, present in every panel yet visible only up close, paired with a navy collar featuring white, brown and gold stripes.
Every jersey purchased across the two locations came with something to keep beyond the wardrobe: a commemorative fanzine created especially for the occasion. Free stickers and gadgets ran through both spaces all weekend, turning each visit into something closer to a memento than a transaction.
The Night in London
On 25 July, the London pop-up became the backdrop for a night built around music, community and a shared appreciation for the things that last. A DJ set carried the evening, guests moved between rails of vintage and reissued shirts, and for a few hours a Soho shopfront felt like the inside of a very well-dressed archive.
None of it would have carried the same atmosphere without Heineken®, official sponsor of the event. A name that knows a thing or two about anniversaries itself: with over 150 years of history and a reputation built glass after glass, Heineken has grown into one of the most iconic and relevant breweries in the world. Its presence on the night was no mere detail; it was a fitting pairing of two names built on endurance rather than trend.
Some Patterns Aren't Just Worn
Born from a shared passion for football culture, fashion and the history of sportswear, The Soccer Archive brings together some of the most iconic football shirts the sport has ever seen: from the classics of Barcelona, Manchester United and Inter, to the rarest international pieces that time seemed to have erased. Every piece is chosen in pursuit of quality, and the footballing heritage that still has the power to move us.
Aquascutum Active and The Soccer Archive speak the same language: that of those who believe a garment is worth not the season in which it is released, but the time it manages to endure. On one side, a check that has dressed entire generations for half a century; on the other, an archive that rescues from oblivion the shirts that have shaped the history of football. Two different ways of saying the same thing: what truly matters never goes out of fashion. It is passed down.
There's a pattern that runs through time without ever changing. You recognise it from a distance, the way you recognise something that belongs to you. For fifty years, Club Check has dressed different generations: fathers and sons, those who discovered it yesterday and those who've worn it forever. People distant in age, city and history, united in one thing alone: a love for what endures. It's exactly the same feeling a fan has standing in front of their own football shirt.
Our Club Check has worked this way for half a century. It doesn't divide. It brings us together. To celebrate this anniversary, the two most democratic symbols we know have been united: our pattern and the gesture of the fan. The result is a shirt that doesn't represent a team,it represents an entire community.
